Tragedy on the Highway: Police Officer's Actions and the Death of Chen Mei-hui in Taiwan

The tragic death of XREX blockchain financial crime investigator Chen Mei-hui in a car accident late last year sparked significant public concern in Taiwan. The case originated from prosecutors investigating XREX founders, Xiao Huizong and Huang Yaowen, for allegedly laundering NT$410 million for a fraud ring. The investigation unexpectedly revealed that Xiao possessed 64 sets of victim data from the National Police Agency's 165 anti-fraud system. Further investigation indicated that the data was leaked by Chen's boyfriend, a police officer surnamed Xie from the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Considering his intention was for investigative purposes, he was granted a deferred prosecution.

The entire case was directed by prosecutor Zhang Fujun of the Taichung District Prosecutors Office. It began in March of last year, with the indictment of the ACE company's "A Fu Wallet" for suspected fraud and money laundering of over NT$300 million. The investigation led to the discovery that XREX founders Xiao Huizong and Huang Yaowen, to gain potential business opportunities for their company, helped a suspect surnamed Xu, who held 12.7 million Tether tokens, to "exchange chains," allegedly assisting in laundering NT$410 million.
