Taiwan Faces Travel Restriction: Somalia Bans Taiwanese Passports Under China's Influence

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan announced today that the government of Somalia has issued a notification, citing United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and adhering to the "One China" principle. This notification instructs all airline operators and stakeholders that, effective October 30th, 2024, passports and related travel documents issued by Taiwan or its affiliated entities will no longer be accepted for entry into, exit from, or transit through the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Somalia's actions, alleging that they were instigated by China. Taiwan's government expressed its serious protest against Somalia's decision to restrict the travel freedom and safety of Taiwanese citizens. They have demanded that the Somali government immediately revoke the announcement.
