Taiwan's Cycling Team Accident: Driver Flees After Collision with School Group
A driver going the wrong way crashes into a cycling tour group from Kang Chiao International School, leaving seven students injured and raising serious questions.
In a shocking incident that has shaken the community, a cycling tour group from Kang Chiao International School in Taiwan was struck by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on a road in Changhua County. The accident, which occurred on Zhangshui Road, Section 3, left seven students with injuries, ranging from minor abrasions to serious fractures.
The accident involved a group of students participating in a cycling tour as part of their coming-of-age ceremony. The students, members of the Kang Chiao International School, were cycling northbound when the incident occurred at approximately 10:48 AM. Initial reports indicate that a car, driven by a 41-year-old man, identified as Xiao, a refrigeration worker, was traveling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with the students.
One student was rendered unconscious at the scene, and two others sustained fractured thighs. An additional four students suffered head and limb abrasions. The driver, after being treated at Yunlin Christian Hospital, reportedly went missing, prompting a police investigation. Authorities are actively seeking the driver to take a statement.
The investigation reveals the group was cycling counter-clockwise as part of their planned tour. The Kang Chiao International School group, comprising 28 students, two teachers, and a cycling company leader, was approaching Taichung City. The accident resulted in more than a dozen students and their bicycles toppling over. The car's windshield was shattered in the collision.
