Taiwanese Prosecutor's Legacy: Protecting the Land and Pursuing Justice

Remembering Wu Chia-mei, a Dedicated Prosecutor Who Fought for Taiwan's Environment and People

The Taiwanese legal community mourns the recent passing of former prosecutor Wu Chia-mei of the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. Her contributions to the protection of Taiwan's natural resources and her dedication to justice are remembered with deep respect and sorrow.

Wu played a crucial role in safeguarding Taiwan's environment. She spearheaded the investigation into the pollution of the Caota Sand Dunes, a case that was dubbed the "Taiwanese Sahara." The efforts of Wu and her team drew attention, with the former Prosecutor General Hsing Tai-chao personally visiting the site to assess the situation. Even as her health declined, Wu expressed a strong desire to continue her work, highlighting her passion for justice. The legal community mourns her loss and remembers her remarkable service.

A graduate of National Taiwan University's Law program, Wu Chia-mei began her career as a clerk in the Taoyuan District Court. She later graduated from the Judicial Officers Training Institute (46th session). During her time in the Women and Children's Protection Division of the Taoyuan Prosecutors Office, she handled numerous sensitive cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Known for her meticulous investigation and patient approach, Wu excelled in helping victims of sexual assault to share their stories and bring perpetrators to justice.
