Taiwan's Civil Servants to Get a Pay Boost in May: A 3% Raise!
Premier Cho Jung-tai Announces Salary Increase for Government Employees, Military, and Educators.

Taipei, Taiwan – In a welcome announcement, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) confirmed on Tuesday that civil servants, military personnel, and public school teachers across Taiwan will receive a 3 percent salary increase beginning in May. This marks a significant development for government employees and reflects the ongoing efforts to support the workforce.
The announcement came during a legislative hearing, where Premier Cho Jung-tai addressed questions regarding the implementation timeline of the pay raise. The timing was influenced by the resolution of the central government budget, which was upheld by lawmakers and subsequently promulgated by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on March 21st.
The delay in distributing the pay raise stemmed from the Cabinet's prior position on the budget. The Cabinet deemed it inappropriate to allocate the funds before resolving its efforts to overturn the NT$3.1 trillion central government budget plan approved by the Legislature.
The Cabinet's request for reconsideration of the budget was based on the many budget cuts and freezes. However, on March 12th, the Legislature voted to uphold the budget it originally passed on January 21st.
Premier Cho Jung-tai specified that the decision to initiate the 3 percent salary increase was made on Tuesday morning. Further details regarding the implementation process were not immediately released.
This wage hike for public servants was originally approved by the Executive Yuan in July 2024, and is now ready for execution.
