Taiwan Teacher's 17.5-Year Sentence Appeal in Child Sexual Assault Case

An elementary school teacher in Taiwan, identified as 徐 (Xu), is appealing a 17.5-year prison sentence for repeatedly sexually assaulting a male student and becoming pregnant with his child. The initial ruling, handed down by a lower court, found 徐 guilty of multiple counts of sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 14.

The case involves incidents that occurred five years ago. 徐, who was the fifth and sixth-grade class teacher of the victim, allegedly initiated the assaults in February 2020, the first day of the school semester. She reportedly summoned the male student to a staff room and forced sexual contact. Subsequently, between March and June of the same year, 徐 repeatedly ignored the student's protests and continued to engage in sexual acts, totaling nine instances.

The Taiwan High Court held a closed-door hearing today regarding 徐's appeal. 徐 did not comment to the media and quickly left the courthouse accompanied by her lawyer.
