Taiwan's Military, Public Servants, and Teachers Get a Raise: When Will It Hit Accounts?

The Presidential Office announced the central government's budget for the current year in March, and lawmakers from across the political spectrum have been eager to know when the 3% salary increase for Taiwan's military personnel, public servants, and teachers (the "Military, Public Servants, and Teachers" or 軍公教) will be reflected in their paychecks.

During a question-and-answer session at the Legislative Yuan today, Premier 卓榮泰 (Cho Jung-tai) confirmed that the salary increases will be implemented starting in May. He also stated that the Executive Yuan does not recognize the legality and constitutionality of the budget review process. The Executive Yuan will also seek a constitutional interpretation regarding the overall budget and the new fiscal revenue and expenditure allocation law.

Legislative Yuan members, including KMT Legislator 翁曉玲 (Weng Hsiao-ling) and DPP Legislator 林宜瑾 (Lin Yi-chin), raised questions about the timeline for the pay raises during today's session. 卓榮泰 (Cho Jung-tai) explained that the implementation was delayed due to the previous budget and its associated reconsideration. He cited these factors as contributing to the overall budget's procedural obstacles.
