Kinmen Airport Reopens: Flights Resume After Fog Disrupts Travel for Hundreds

Taipei, April 21 - Operations have returned to normal at Kinmen Airport following a weekend of dense fog that caused 34 flight cancellations, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded, the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) announced on Monday.

To alleviate congestion, the CAA stated in a news release that it is coordinating with domestic airline operators. The airport resumed its regular schedule on the previous day.

Uni Air will add an extra Taipei-Kinmen flight on Monday using an Airbus A321 aircraft, according to the aviation administration. Mandarin Airlines has also agreed to operate an additional flight on Tuesday.

The Ministry of National Defense has been contacted to provide transportation assistance if needed, the CAA confirmed.

Under current projections, the number of scheduled flights should be sufficient to accommodate passenger demand, the CAA indicated.

Based on information from Kinmen Airport, the CAA reported that fewer than 100 passengers were still awaiting their return to Taiwan proper as of Monday morning.

With the fog season underway, travelers to Kinmen are urged to meticulously plan their travel arrangements to prevent weather-related disruptions at the airport.
