Taiwan's "Green-White Phone Call": Ko Wen-je Loses Lawsuit Over Speaker Election Allegations
Court Sides with Wu Cheng and Dismisses Lawsuit Regarding Controversial Phone Call Incident in Legislative Yuan Speaker Race.

The Taipei District Court has delivered a verdict in the high-profile "Green-White Phone Call" case, a legal battle stemming from the Legislative Yuan's Speaker election in Taiwan. The lawsuit, filed by the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) and its former chairman, Ko Wen-je, against the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson, Wu Cheng, sought NT$1 million in damages and demanded the removal of social media posts. Wu Cheng, representing the DPP, had alleged that Ko Wen-je initiated a phone call to "a prominent figure in the medical field within the Green camp" to negotiate over the Speaker position. The court has ruled in favor of Wu Cheng, dismissing the lawsuit and allowing for an appeal.
The controversy arose from the election of the Legislative Yuan's Speaker. The incident has become known as "Green-White Phone Call."
The TPP and Ko Wen-je also filed separate lawsuits against Sanlih E-Television and a journalist, and ETtoday and another journalist, each demanding NT$1 million in damages and the removal of news reports. The court also ruled against the TPP and Ko Wen-je in these related cases.
