Trump's Unexpected Appearance Shakes Up US-Japan Trade Talks: A

Taiwan-based sources report on the recent trade negotiations between Japan and the United States, which took an unexpected turn with the unannounced participation of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The discussions, centered around tariffs, saw the Japanese delegation, led by Japan's Minister of Economic Revitalization, Akazawa Ryosei, seeking immediate exemptions. However, these requests were not immediately granted.

Returning home, Akazawa Ryosei stated, "We said what needed to be said," highlighting Japan's clear stance. But the unexpected involvement of Trump significantly altered the negotiation dynamics.

According to reports from Japanese media sources, including Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS), the talks were significantly impacted by Trump’s impromptu decision to attend. This sudden intervention shifted the meeting location and, critically, placed the pace of the negotiations firmly in the hands of the American side.

Akazawa Ryosei further added that the Japanese side "clearly stated to the US that the US's tariff measures are extremely regrettable, and strongly requested that the other party review a series of related measures. Japan has already stated its position."
