Chungli Activity Centers Face Construction Crisis: Abandoned Projects Seek Urgent Revival

In Taoyuan City's Chungli District, the expansion projects for the Longgang and Jiuming Community Activity Centers, initiated with much fanfare two years ago, have encountered significant setbacks. The original contractor abandoned the projects mid-way, leading to contract termination and subsequent delays. City Councilor Hsieh Mei-ying voiced her concerns, criticizing the situation: "The contractor ran away, and the activity centers turned into ruins." The Taoyuan City Government's Department of Civil Affairs and the Chungli District Office have announced a crucial decision in response to the crisis. They plan to allocate an additional NT$15 million to both projects with the hope of restarting construction by June.

The Longgang Community Activity Center is located next to Longgang Park, while the Jiuming Activity Center is within Jiushe Park. Both centers began construction in April 2023, with initial budgets of approximately NT$24 million each, totaling NT$48 million. The original completion date was set for March 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Longgang Community Activity Center, presided over by Mayor Chang San-cheng, saw enthusiastic participation from the local community. However, the contractor faced financial difficulties, leading to delays and ultimately, the suspension of construction on both activity centers.
