Taiwanese Game Developer Wins Legal Battle Against Former Engineer With Advanced Degrees

An engineer with dual master's degrees from a prestigious US university has lost a legal battle against a Taiwanese game development company after being terminated. The engineer, who held degrees in computer science and linguistics, worked for the company in Taiwan for 14 years. The company cited poor performance and a lack of understanding of games, including not knowing that "血條" (blood bar) is the same thing as "HP" (hit points) in the game as reasons for the dismissal.

The engineer argued that the termination was unlawful and filed a lawsuit seeking reinstatement. However, the Kaohsiung District Court ruled in favor of the company, finding the dismissal justified. The court determined that the company had provided numerous opportunities for improvement, but the engineer's performance did not meet the required standards.

The court documents revealed that the engineer graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo, holding two master's degrees. He was employed by the well-known game developer in Taiwan starting in 2010, where he was responsible for both front-end and back-end game design work. His monthly salary was approximately NT$42,950.
