FJU Student Injured: Motorcycle Collision Highlights Road Safety Concerns in Taiwan

An unfortunate incident occurred early this morning near the campus of Fu Jen Catholic University (FJU) in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. A female university student, identified as Ms. Hong, was attempting to cross a busy road in an attempt to make it to her class on time. She reportedly did not use a designated crosswalk and ran across the road against the traffic signal.

The incident resulted in a collision with a motorcycle ridden by a man identified as Mr. Wang. The impact caused multiple bone fractures to Ms. Hong's legs. Mr. Wang sustained minor injuries, including a scraped right hand. Police arrived on the scene and administered a breathalyzer test to Mr. Wang, which yielded a reading of zero. The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident to determine responsibility.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ms. Hong, 22, was not following traffic regulations for pedestrians and had run a red light. Police are expected to issue citations for the infractions under the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.
