New Taipei City Celebrates Thai Culture & Workers with Vibrant Water Festival

New Taipei City, Taiwan, April 28 – Over 5,000 attendees celebrated a vibrant Water Festival on Sunday, showcasing Thai culture and expressing gratitude to the Thai migrant workers who contribute significantly to Taiwan's economy.

The event, held in the picturesque Bitan Scenic Area in Xindian District, was a collaborative effort between the New Taipei Labor Affairs Department and the Thailand Trade and Economic Office. The primary goal was to acknowledge and appreciate the essential contributions of Thai workers.

New Taipei Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan (劉和然) highlighted the invaluable roles of Thai workers in building public infrastructure and providing crucial home care for senior citizens during his address at the festival.

The Labor Affairs Department emphasized that the Water Festival aimed to create a "familiar and warm cultural space" for Thai nationals, while also providing an opportunity for Taiwanese citizens to immerse themselves in Thai culture. The hope is to foster greater respect for diverse cultures and promote inclusivity within Taiwanese society.

The afternoon was filled with energy as Thai singers Kaimook and Bam Phailin performed a series of popular songs, igniting the crowd and transforming the event into a lively open-air music festival.

The Water Festival also featured a bustling Thai bazaar, offering free services like haircuts, massages, and fortune-telling. In addition, the Tzu Chi Foundation provided free health checks, while a display of agricultural products by small farmers showcased local produce.
