Tragic Incident in Taichung: Elderly Woman Fatally Struck by Mercedes-Benz

A pedestrian fatality underscores road safety concerns in Taiwan's Taichung City.

A devastating traffic accident in the East District of Taichung City, Taiwan, resulted in the death of a 74-year-old woman. The incident occurred this morning when a white Mercedes-Benz, driven by a man surnamed Du, struck the woman as she was running across a crosswalk.

The collision, which took place at the intersection of Ziyou Road and Fuxing Road, caused the woman to be thrown into the air. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Preliminary investigations by the Taichung Third Precinct determined the driver, Mr. Du, to have a breath alcohol content of zero.

Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area to gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the accident. Mr. Du has been charged with negligent homicide and is being investigated further.
