President Lai Addresses Cash Payout Proposals and Economic Strategy in Taiwan

During a recent industrial visit to the Anping Industrial Zone in Tainan on May 25th, President Lai shared his insights on Taiwan's economic direction. He highlighted his plans to negotiate with the United States using five key strategies. A significant focus of the visit centered on the government's special regulations, which included plans to subsidize Taiwan Power Company (Taipower). This approach reflects the concerns voiced by many in the industrial sector who are wary of electricity price increases.

Regarding the proposal for a universal cash payout of NT$10,000, President Lai noted that such a move would cost over NT$230 billion. He encouraged consideration of how these funds could be best utilized to bolster Taiwan's overall economic development.

President Lai emphasized the diverse nature of industry in Tainan, encompassing high-tech and traditional sectors spanning various aspects of life. He acknowledged the crucial role that Tainan's industry plays in both the city's and Taiwan's economic growth. He expressed his gratitude for the contributions of businesses and individuals. Addressing the impact of former US President **Trump**'s proposed reciprocal **tariffs**, he explained that the government is actively working to mitigate the effects. The strategy involves negotiating with the US using five key methods, hoping to establish a tariff agreement similar to the one between the US, Canada, and Mexico, potentially beginning with zero tariffs.
