Taiwan Faces Backlash After Protest Leader's Nazi Gesture: Israel Condemns

A recent incident in Taiwan has sparked international concern, with a protest leader, Song Jianliang, drawing sharp criticism for displaying Nazi symbolism. Prior to an interview with the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, Song Jianliang was seen wearing an armband bearing the Nazi swastika, holding a copy of Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf," and performing the Nazi salute.

The actions have prompted a strong reaction from the international community. Israeli Representative to Taiwan, Maya Yaron, took to Facebook to express her deep concern and strong condemnation. She stated that as the Israeli representative, she was deeply troubled by the public display of Nazi symbols and Hitler's writings in Taiwan.

Yaron emphasized that these symbols represent hatred, racism, and extreme violence, universally recognized as symbols of one of the darkest chapters in human history. She noted that the use of such symbols is not only deeply disrespectful and inappropriate but also inflicts profound pain and offense on survivors, descendants, and the entire Jewish community who suffered under Nazi atrocities.
