Shocking Stabbing at Taipei MRT: Woman Attacked in Unprovoked Incident
A Random Act of Violence Raises Concerns about Public Safety in Taiwan's Capital

Taipei, Taiwan - April 15 - Authorities are investigating a disturbing incident that occurred at the Shipai Station of the Taipei Metro, where a woman was attacked in what appears to be a random act of violence.
According to the Taipei Police Department, officers were dispatched to the station at approximately 5:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they discovered a 42-year-old woman, identified as Chen (陳) and fully conscious, with stab wounds on her back and shoulder. She was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The alleged assailant, a 40-year-old woman surnamed Lin (林), reportedly stabbed Chen with a small paring knife while Chen was seated on the train platform. The wounds were approximately 2-3 centimeters in size.
Lin was quickly apprehended by a station security guard and members of the public before being taken into police custody at the Shipai Police Station. Initial reports suggest the two women, Chen and Lin, were not acquainted, and Lin's unclear mental state following the incident has made determining a motive challenging. A photo released by the authorities showed the weapon used was a small, common paring knife with a metal blade and a green plastic handle.
Following questioning, Lin is expected to be turned over to prosecutors, facing charges of causing bodily harm under the Criminal Code. The incident has raised concerns about public safety within the city's bustling transit system.
