Gas Leak Emergency in Taishan, New Taipei City: Excavation Incident Raises Explosion Fears

An emergency unfolded this afternoon in the Wenzaizhen redevelopment zone on Wencheng Road in Taishan District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, due to a gas leak. During excavation work, construction crews accidentally struck and ruptured a gas pipeline, causing a significant release of gas into the air.

Emergency responders were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters conducted gas concentration tests, revealing readings exceeding 50,000 PPM (parts per million), indicating a high risk of explosion. In response, the police established a 100-meter perimeter to secure the area and awaited the arrival of gas company personnel to address the leak.

The situation was successfully resolved at 6:18 PM, after the gas company technicians shut off the necessary valves, mitigating the immediate danger.
