Tariff Showdown: US-Taiwan Trade Winds of Change
As Washington Eyes Reciprocal Tariffs, Taiwan Braces for Impact

According to a Wall Street Journal report, U.S. President Donald Trump demanded on the 7th that China revoke its retaliatory measures against the United States. He threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff and halt all U.S.-China talks if the demands were not met.
At the same time, Trump left room for potential agreements with other countries. When asked whether the tariffs would be permanent or depend on the outcome of negotiations, he stated, "Anything is possible," but he "doesn't plan" to postpone the implementation of large-scale reciprocal tariffs for now.
Trump told reporters on the 7th that he is currently not considering a postponement of the reciprocal tariff policy. "Many countries are now actively seeking negotiations, and they will reach fair agreements, in some cases, they may pay a considerable tariff price," he added. He also mentioned that he had a good conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba that morning.
