Trade War Escalates: Trump's Tariff Threats and China's Stance

The looming implementation of retaliatory tariffs by the United States on the 9th has sparked a strong response from China. Unlike other nations attempting to appease former U.S. President Donald Trump, China has doubled down on its stance, vowing to retaliate and "see it through to the end." Experts suggest this move is not only aimed at domestic propaganda but also a strategic gamble that the tariffs will ultimately inflict greater damage on the United States. They indicate China has been preparing for this confrontation for an extended period.

Following Trump's announcement of retaliatory tariffs on the 2nd, China responded by imposing corresponding tariffs of 34% on all American goods. Simultaneously, they imposed export controls on seven rare earth materials. Subsequently, on the 7th, Trump escalated the pressure by threatening to increase tariffs by an additional 50% if China didn't withdraw its retaliatory measures by the 8th, effectively halting all negotiations between the two nations. This situation reflects the heightening tensions and strategic calculations involved in this trade dispute.
