Tragedy on Taiwan's Mountains: Hiker Dies During Holiday Climb

A group of six hikers experienced a devastating tragedy while climbing Yuli Mountain in Taiwan during the recent Qingming Festival holiday. 53-year-old Wang, a female member of the group, was swept away by the current while crossing the Lele River.

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched after receiving the report. Sadly, search efforts concluded in the early hours of today, when Wang was found downstream, deceased. Authorities are investigating the incident.

It was discovered that the group had not obtained the necessary permits for their climb, potentially leading to a fine of NT$50,000 according to the Hualien County mountain climbing regulations.

The hiking team members were from Tainan, Taichung, and Changhua, and were seasoned hiking buddies. They often went hiking together, and this time, they decided to ascend Yuli Mountain, located on the edge of the Yushan National Park. The team had targeted the intermediate mountain routes of Yuli Mountain and Zhuoxi Mountain in Yuli Township and Zhuoxi Township, Hualien, Taiwan.
