Bridge to the Future: Taming Traffic in Taoyuan's Scenic Daxi District

New Bridge Project Aims to Alleviate Congestion and Boost Tourism in Taoyuan's Beloved Daxi
Bridge to the Future: Taming Traffic in Taoyuan's Scenic Daxi District

The picturesque Daxi district of Taoyuan, Taiwan, famed for its location along the Dahan River, faces a persistent challenge: heavy traffic congestion. With limited access via Wuling Bridge and Kanjian Bridge, residents and visitors alike experience frustrating delays, especially during peak commuting hours and weekends. Residents often lament, "Can't get home," while tourists complain, "Can't get out."

The demand for a third bridge has been voiced by the local representatives for a long time. The Taoyuan City Government has recently revealed its plans, with the initial road alignment planning expected to be completed in April. This ambitious project seeks to alleviate the current traffic issues, which significantly affect daily life and the area's vibrant tourism industry.

According to Taoyuan City Councilor 李柏坊 (Li Baofang), the Daxi and Fuxing areas, situated on the right bank of the Dahan River, heavily rely on tourism. Daxi was even once named among Taiwan's top ten tourist towns. However, the frequent traffic congestion has negatively impacted not only tourism but also emergency services, hindering the efficient transportation of patients by ambulances. The planned addition of a Bade Interchange on National Highway 3, with a new road extending to Daxi, further underscores the need for a third bridge. Without a new bridge and associated road planning, the interchange's impact would be significantly diminished.
