Tragedy on the Taipei Metro: Woman Dies After Track Incident

Taipei, April 5 – A tragic incident unfolded on the Taipei Metro's Bannan Line, resulting in the death of a female passenger at Fuzhong Station. The New Taipei City Fire Department reported the event, which occurred Saturday evening.

Emergency responders discovered the woman with no vital signs after she had climbed over a barrier and onto the tracks. She was immediately transported to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, but sadly, she could not be saved. The exact circumstances surrounding the event are currently under investigation.

Taipei Metro officials stated that the incident occurred at approximately 6:53 p.m. The woman reportedly scaled the platform screen doors on the Dingpu-bound platform and jumped onto the tracks just as a train was arriving. She was struck by the train.

The station manager promptly entered the tracks to provide assistance, and emergency services, including both police and medical personnel, were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

The incident caused considerable service disruptions. To minimize impact, Taipei Metro implemented a single-track, two-way service between Far Eastern Hospital Station and Jiangzicui Station, with trains running every 16 minutes.

A shuttle bus service was also put into operation between Haishan Station and Longshan Temple Station to help passengers affected by the disruptions.
