Following President Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs on December 2nd, Cambodia found itself facing significant duties, reaching up to 49%. In a rapid response, Cambodian Prime Minister 洪馬內 (Hun Manet) on December 4th, addressed a letter to President Trump, formally requesting negotiations and implementing an immediate change.

Cambodia has decided to immediately reduce import tariffs on 19 categories of American products. The tariffs have been reduced from a maximum of 35% down to 5%, showing a clear desire for collaboration and trade improvements.

According to the Khmer Times report, the letter, titled "Request for Negotiation on the Implementation of Export Tariffs for Cambodia," highlights that Cambodia's current tariff practices have a maximum of 35%. The initiative to reduce the tariffs reflects a commitment to improving bilateral trade relationships and boosting the import of American goods.
