Tariff Tango: China Responds to US Tariffs with Retaliatory Measures

In a move that signals a further escalation of trade tensions, the People's Republic of China has announced retaliatory tariffs against the United States, following the implementation of tariffs by the US.

The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump declared the imposition of 34% tariffs on Chinese goods. In response, the PRC's State Council Tariff Commission issued a statement on April 4th, imposing a 34% tariff on all imported goods originating from the United States.

The PRC's State Council Tariff Commission Office stated on its official website on the evening of April 4th that the US's decision on April 2nd to impose "reciprocal tariffs" on Chinese exports did not comply with international trade rules. They argued that this action "seriously damages China's legitimate rights and interests" and is a "typical unilateral bullying practice," which not only damages US interests but also endangers global economic development and supply chain stability. The statement highlights the escalating trade dispute and its potential impact on the global economy, specifically in the context of Taiwan.
