Taiwan's Bold Response: NT$88 Billion Package to Counter Trump Tariffs

In response to the significant impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's aggressive tariffs, which have imposed a 32% duty on certain Taiwanese goods, Premier 卓榮泰 (Cho Jung-tai) addressed the nation, acknowledging the challenges faced by Taiwanese industries.

Premier Cho, in a press conference held on April 4th, unveiled a comprehensive assistance package of NT$88 billion, featuring nine key areas and twenty specific support measures designed to mitigate the effects of the tariffs. Premier Cho stated, "We apologize for being a day late," recognizing the urgency of the situation.

The Premier highlighted that industries such as electronics, information technology, steel, machinery, and automotive components are among those significantly affected. Additionally, the agricultural sector, including the production of orchids, tea, edamame, and tilapia, will also receive targeted assistance.

The Executive Yuan held a press conference titled "Support Plan for Taiwan's Export Supply Chains in Response to US Tariffs" to detail the measures. The conference was attended by numerous high-ranking officials, including Vice Premier 鄭麗君 (Cheng Li-chun), Secretary-General 龔明鑫 (Kung Ming-hsin), Political Committee member 楊珍妮 (Yang Jenny), Spokesperson 李慧芝 (Lee Hui-chih), Minister of the National Development Council 劉鏡清 (Liu Ching-hsing), Minister of Finance 莊翠雲 (Chuang Tsui-yun), Minister of Economic Affairs 郭智輝 (Kuo Chih-hui), Minister of Labor 洪申翰 (Hung Shen-han), and Minister of Agriculture 陳駿季 (Chen Chun-chi).
