Trump's Tariff Blow: Taiwan Faces Billions in Export Losses

In a significant move, former US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 32% tariff on goods from Taiwan. While certain sectors, including semiconductors and steel, may temporarily be exempt, the overall impact is substantial.

Based on 2024 export figures, it's estimated that over $100 billion USD in Taiwanese exports could be subject to these increased tariffs. Industries particularly vulnerable include automatic data processing machines, computer components, and printed circuit boards.

Analysts suggest that the server and computer parts industries will bear the brunt of the tariffs. In 2024, these two categories alone accounted for 52.34% of Taiwan's total exports to the US, representing $58.285 billion USD.
