Taiwan Faces 32% US Tariff: Government to Challenge Unfair Trade Measures

The United States, under President Trump, has announced the implementation of "reciprocal tariffs" on several countries, including Taiwan, citing currency manipulation and non-tariff barriers. This policy has resulted in a 32% tariff being imposed on Taiwanese goods. The Executive Yuan Spokesperson, Li Hui-chih, stated that the government considers this measure to be strongly unreasonable and deeply regrettable. The administration plans to formally engage with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to demand a clarification on the tariff's justification.

Following the announcement of the "reciprocal tariffs," Premier Cho Jung-tai addressed the situation on his Facebook page late last night, assuring the public that the government has prepared a comprehensive response. He stated that the government is ready to share the research, analysis, discussions, and strategies developed over the past several months. Premier Cho emphasized, "The government is prepared, risks are manageable, and industries have support."
