Yangmingshan Ablaze: Wildfire Erupts Near Taipei, Prompting Urgent Response

Taipei, Taiwan – A significant wildfire erupted in Yangmingshan National Park on Monday, triggering a major response from local authorities. The blaze, which began in the Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area, is currently challenging firefighting efforts.

The Taipei City Fire Department deployed 21 firefighting vehicles and 72 personnel to the mountainous region, located north of central Taipei. The fire has already consumed an estimated 100 square meters of vegetation in the Beitou District.

Thick smoke plumes are emanating from the slopes near Zhuzihu Road, visibly affecting air quality across various areas of Taiwan's capital city. The fire department received the initial report at 11:17 a.m. local time.

Despite intensive firefighting efforts, the fire continues to spread as of Monday afternoon. Firefighting equipment included four command vehicles, 16 fire engines, and an ambulance. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

Taipei City Councilor Chang Szu-kang (張斯綱) has issued a public health advisory via Facebook. He urged residents living downwind of the fire to stay indoors, close windows, and wear masks if venturing outside due to the compromised air quality.
