Kindness on the Road: Elderly Woman's Wish Fulfilled During Taiwan's Majestic Mazu Pilgrimage

During the Da Jia Mazu Raojing (procession) in Taichung City, Taiwan, a touching moment unfolded. A 90-year-old A-ma (grandmother) was spotted kneeling with the crowd, seeking blessings by passing under the palanquin, a practice known as Zuanjiao. Due to her age, she struggled to kneel completely, and was visibly trembling.

Seeing her distress, the police officers accompanying the procession immediately offered assistance. They provided her with a chair, allowing her to rest until the palanquin approached. When the time came, two officers ensured her safety, helping her fulfill her heartfelt wish to perform Zuanjiao.

Today marks the final day of the Da Jia Mazu Raojing. The procession will return to the Dajia Jenn Lann Temple this afternoon, where the ceremonial return and final placing of the statue will take place. Tens of thousands of people are expected to celebrate the completion of this year's pilgrimage.
