According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on December 12th that he will reveal Washington's latest policy on semiconductor tariffs on December 14th, Eastern Time. "I will give the answer on Monday," he stated.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing an unnamed White House official, reported that Trump will request a study on imposing tariffs on semiconductors under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. This section empowers Trump to investigate and impose tariffs on imported goods that threaten national security. Trump has previously invoked Section 232 to impose 25% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles.
