In a recent address, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te acknowledged the potential impact of proposed reciprocal tariffs from the United States, specifically mentioning former US President Donald Trump's quick adoption of the policy. He noted the potential ramifications for Taiwan and the global economy.

President Lai made these remarks at the "International Rotary 3523 District 2025 District Annual Conference Opening Ceremony". He emphasized the evolving international landscape, highlighting the swift pace of developments, including the proposed tariffs. "We probably did not expect President Trump to propose reciprocal tariff policies so quickly, impacting Taiwan and, of course, affecting the entire world," he stated.

President Lai confirmed that Taiwan is among the first nations to engage in discussions with the United States regarding the potential tariffs. Furthermore, he confirmed that negotiations occurred the previous evening, describing the process as successful.
