Tariff Tango Paused: EU and US Hit the Brakes, But For How Long?

According to a report from the BBC on the 10th, the European Union (EU) has decided to temporarily suspend retaliatory tariffs on American goods. This action follows the announcement by US President **Trump** to postpone the implementation of reciprocal tariffs on certain countries for a period of 90 days.

The BBC highlighted that just hours before **Trump**'s announcement of the 90-day tariff pause, 26 EU member states (excluding Hungary) had voted to implement the countermeasures. The EU's planned retaliation was scheduled in three phases: The first wave took effect on April 15th, impacting approximately 3.9 billion Euros worth of US exports to the EU; the second wave was scheduled for May 15th, affecting approximately 13.5 billion Euros worth of goods; and the final wave was slated for December 1st, with an additional 3.5 billion Euros worth of goods impacted. This dramatic shift suggests a complex interplay of interests and negotiations between the two economic powerhouses.
