Taiwan Weather Update: Morning Thunderstorms to Give Way to Sunshine
A Passing Front Brings Rain, But Brighter Skies Are Ahead

Taipei, Taiwan – Get ready for a mixed bag of weather across Taiwan! According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), residents in northern and central Taiwan can expect heavy rain and thunderstorms during the morning hours on Thursday. However, there's good news: conditions are anticipated to improve as the day progresses.
The CWA issued an early morning alert, indicating that a passing weather front has heightened the chances of wet and stormy conditions throughout the nation. The public is advised to take precautions against lightning strikes and strong wind gusts.
Fortunately, the rain is expected to gradually diminish Thursday afternoon. Only sporadic showers are likely to persist in mountainous regions and in the eastern counties of Hualien and Taitung, according to the CWA.
Other parts of Taiwan should see overcast skies later in the day. Regarding temperatures, highs will range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius in central, eastern, and northern Taiwan. Southern areas could experience highs reaching up to 32 degrees Celsius, as per the CWA.
The CWA also cautioned about strong southwesterly winds, particularly near the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, and on the outlying islands of Lanyu and Green Island, both located in Taitung County. These areas could experience sustained winds of 39-50 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 62-75 kph. Caution is advised for those planning coastal activities.
Adding to the weather picture, foggy conditions may affect visibility in Kinmen County and the Matsu Islands, according to the CWA.
Looking ahead, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) predicts partly cloudy to sunny weather across Taiwan from Friday through Saturday afternoon. However, mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island might see occasional localized light rain.
A fast-moving weather front is expected to bring scattered showers or thunderstorms to all of Taiwan from Saturday afternoon into early Sunday. Temperatures will likely drop as the front passes, but conditions are forecast to improve quickly later on Sunday morning, according to Wu.
