Trump's Surprise Tariff Pause: Rewards for Cooperation

In a move that has sent ripples through the global markets, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs. During this period, a reduced 10% reciprocal tariff will be in effect. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent signaled that cooperation and the absence of retaliation will be met with rewards.

On the social media platform "Truth Social," Trump stated that, due to China's perceived lack of respect for global markets, he would increase U.S. tariffs on China to 125%, effective immediately. However, he also noted that over 75 countries have contacted U.S. representatives and have refrained from retaliatory measures. In response, Trump authorized a 90-day suspension of the policy, with a 10% reciprocal tariff in place during the suspension, also effective immediately.
