Taiwan Faces Trade Winds: Industries at Risk Amidst US Tariff Actions
How Taiwan's Labor Market is Bracing for Impact as US Tariffs Take Effect.

The United States has initiated reciprocal tariffs, imposing a 32% duty on goods from Taiwan. Labor Minister Hong Shen-han, addressing the Legislative Yuan's Health and Environment Committee, identified several sectors at potential risk. These include mechanical engineering, automotive components, rubber, plastics, petrochemicals, plumbing hardware, and fasteners.
Minister Hong emphasized that the Ministry of Labor will closely monitor the situation within these industries and their employment needs. Support programs are planned to be implemented, with a meeting scheduled next week to discuss employment stability measures and industry-specific strategies in conjunction with relevant ministries. The goal is to mitigate the negative impacts on the workforce in Taiwan.
The Ministry of Labor presented a special report today to the Legislative Yuan's Health and Environment Committee, focusing on the recovery and accountability of improper use of Labor Ministry funds. Several legislators expressed their concerns regarding the impact of the US reciprocal tariffs on the domestic labor market.
