Trump's Taiwan Gambit: Threat of 100% Tariffs on TSMC if No US Plant

Former US President Donald Trump has revealed a stark warning issued to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). According to reports, Trump threatened TSMC with a 100% tariff if the company did not establish manufacturing facilities in the United States.

This revelation underscores the ongoing pressure and protectionist measures surrounding international trade, specifically in the critical semiconductor industry. This measure would take effect at 12:01 PM (Taiwan time).

During a speech at a Republican National Congressional Committee dinner, Trump also criticized the current administration's decision to provide $6.6 billion in subsidies to TSMC's US subsidiary for semiconductor production in Phoenix, Arizona. Trump argued that such financial assistance was unnecessary for semiconductor companies.
