Breaking News: Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je Reportedly Undergoing Surgery in Taiwan
Family Expresses Outrage Over Lack of Information Regarding Medical Procedure

In a developing situation, former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, currently under detention at the Taipei Detention Center, is reportedly scheduled for surgery tomorrow. The operation stems from a diagnosis of hydronephrosis and ureteral stones.
News of the impending surgery caught his family by surprise. His wife, Chen Pei-chi, expressed shock and concern via a Facebook post. Ko Wen-je's sister, Ko Mei-lan, has voiced strong criticism over the lack of communication surrounding the procedure. She emphasized the importance of patient "right to know" and the necessity for family members to be informed.
"What kind of surgery will my brother undergo? If it's hydronephrosis, what stage is it? Where is the lesion located? How should it be performed? Will he need general anesthesia? Should he be hospitalized? The attending physician should inform our family. How can the attending physician not be able to tell the family?" Ko Mei-lan questioned, highlighting the family's frustration and desire for transparency regarding Ko Wen-je's health.
