Family Outraged Over Lack of Information Regarding Former Taipei Mayor's Medical Procedure

Former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je, currently detained at the Taipei Detention Center, is reportedly scheduled for surgery tomorrow due to hydronephrosis and a ureteral stone. The news has ignited a firestorm of concern and criticism, particularly from his family.

Ko Wen-je's wife, Chen Peiqi, expressed her shock and worry on Facebook, stating she had only just learned of the impending operation. Ko Meilan, Ko Wen-je's sister, voiced her deep anger, emphasizing the fundamental "right to know" that patients possess regarding their own medical care. She also pointed out that family members should be informed of the specifics surrounding the procedure.

"What kind of surgery is my brother undergoing? If it's hydronephrosis, what stage is it? Where is the lesion located? How should the operation be performed? Should it be under general anesthesia? Should he be hospitalized? The attending physician should inform our family," Ko Meilan demanded. "How can it be that the attending physician is unable to tell the family?"
