Taiwanese Motorcyclists Alert: Don't Panic About Your Tax Bill!
Understanding the Zero-Tax Rule for Motorcycles in Taiwan

As the annual license plate tax collection period begins on April 1st, with a payment deadline of April 30th, many Taiwanese citizens are expressing concern about not receiving their tax bills. This has prompted inquiries to the local tax authorities.
The local tax bureaus in Taiwan have clarified that motorcycles with an engine displacement of 150cc or less are exempt from the license plate tax. Consequently, owners of these motorcycles are not required to pay the tax and will not receive a payment notice.
The tax bureau further explained, according to the "Vehicle License Plate Tax Act," that motorcycles with engines under 150cc are subject to a zero-tax amount. This exemption means no payment is necessary, and no bill will be issued. The license plate tax applies only to motorcycles with an engine displacement of 151cc and above, with the tax amount determined by the engine's size.
