A Haven of Hope: Taoyuan's "Warm Memory Home" Supports Dementia Patients and Families
Providing Comprehensive Care and Respite for Dementia Patients and Their Loved Ones in Taiwan.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare Taoyuan General Hospital highlights that instances such as elderly family members packing suitcases at midnight "to go home," suspecting theft, or experiencing emotional outbursts, including visual hallucinations, can be indicators of dementia with behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPSD). These situations often leave families bewildered and exhausted.
In response to the challenges faced by both patients and their families, Taoyuan General Hospital has established the "Warm Memory Home," a caring and specialized unit. This dedicated space provides comprehensive inpatient care for dementia patients and offers a much-needed respite for caregivers. The hospital emphasizes that patients needing this level of care have often been compelled to travel to Taipei for treatment, due to the limited local availability. Recognizing this gap, Taoyuan General Hospital developed this specialized medical environment and resource, offering families an invaluable local option and eliminating the need to seek help in Taipei.
